Stanton sweeps Twin River to end regular season

The Stanton Mustangs won their final regular season match on Thursday, defeating Twin River 3-0 on the road.

Stanton won set one 25-12, set two 25-15, and set three 25-18.

Hilary Huss notched 11 kills, 8 digs, and 15 set assists. Jessie Brandl totaled 9 kills and 11 digs while Chantelle Christensen recorded 7 kills. Bree Burtwhistle had 19 digs and 16 set assists while MacKenzie Brandl registered 9 digs.

The Mustangs did a good job of taking care of business against the Titans. Stanton showed no ill effects from the loss to North Bend Central, and did what they have most of the season, which is dominate.

The Mustangs (29-2) battle either Battle Creek (14-16) or Clarkson/Leigh (11-18) in the C2-5 sub district at Norfolk Catholic on Monday.

I don't look for Stanton to have a lot of trouble against either opponent.

The Mustangs could be challenged by Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family if the Bulldogs reach the sub district final.

This is an interesting sub district, in my opinion. Stanton should win it, but the Mustangs have to be on top of their game, and can't miss a beat.

Unlike last year, Stanton should get a wildcard into the state tournament should they falter in sub districts or in a district final, but the Mustangs need to win their way into the state tournament this year.

This team has been on a mission since the end of last year, and everything they've worked for in the last year, all the countless hours spent on the court and in the weight room, is for the chance to get to state and win a state championship.

Stanton has to make it count this time. The Mustangs can't falter this time around. Stanton has to find a way to become district champions, and earn their way into the state tournament.

It's the postseason, and the Mustangs have to play championship volleyball.

Monday's match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
