West Point-Beemer goes 2-2 in East Husker Conference Tournament

The West Point-Beemer Cadets finished 2-2 at the East Husker Conference Tournament last week, downing BRLD 2-0 and losing 2-0 to Howells-Dodge on Thursday at Howells-Dodge before beating Twin River 2-1, but losing 2-1 to Wisner-Pilger on Saturday in Wisner.

The Cadets topped the Wolverines 25-18 in set one, and 25-21 in set two.

The Jaguars beat West Point-Beemer 25-20 in the first set, and 25-21 in the second set.

The Cadets took the first set from the Gators 25-17, only to see Wisner-Pilger comeback and win the next two sets 25-11 and 25-16.

West Point-Beemer earned a 25-14 set one win over the Titans, and won set three 25-19, but lost set two 25-22.

The Cadets certainly played some difficult teams in this tournament, but more than held their own.

West Point-Beemer (12-13) is at Boone Central/Newman Grove (9-14) Tuesday night.

The Cardinals lost 3-2 at Hartington Cedar Catholic on Thursday.

Boone Central/Newman Grove has played and lost to some good teams, just like the Cadets, which makes this an intriguing match.

I look for West Point-Beemer to hold their own Tuesday night, and perhaps come away with a win.

It would be a big deal for the Cadets to knock off the Cardinals.

West Point-Beemer would rather win and feel good about themselves the rest of the week as opposed to losing and perhaps feeling a little bummed they lost their last match.

After Tuesday night's match the Cadets will be off for a week so West Point-Beemer needs to perform well to feel good about themselves heading into next week's home triangular with Howells-Dodge and Pender.

These are the types of matches you want to win when building a program. The difference between being a good team and not a good team can be winning close matches.

So far the Cadets have won some close matches, and lost some close matches.

That makes predicting who is going to win this match all the more difficult.

I think one thing and the opposite happens, or a match doesn't go the way I think it's going to.

West Point-Beemer has to control what they can control, which is their hustle and effort.

The Cadets have to play a good match from start to finish if they want to pull out a win against Boone Central/Newman Grove.

West Point-Beemer has the better record, but the Cardinals are at home, so again, this match is really difficult to predict.

I don't want to speculate either way who is going to win because the result won't be what I think, say, or expect it to be.

So I'm simply going to let things play out and talk about this match after it's played.
