Stanton sweeps West Point-Beemer and Scribner-Snyder

The Stanton Mustangs got back on track Tuesday night, downing West Point-Beemer and Scribner-Snyder 2-0 at the Scribner-Snyder Triangular.

The Mustangs beat the Cadets 25-10 in set one, and 25-15 in set two.

Bree Burtwhistle had 7 kills and 11 set assists while MacKenzie Brandl notched 10 digs. Makenna Espinoza dished out 12 set assists.

Stanton downed the Trojans 25-17 in the first set, and 25-18 in the second set.

Burtwhistle notched 9 kills, 12 digs, and 13 set assists while Hannah Heppner totaled 7 kills. Brandl recorded 20 digs while Katie Brandl totaled 13. Espinoza notched 8 digs and 9 set assists.

The Mustangs did a great job of bouncing back and getting back on track in this triangular. Multiple players stepped up in Jessie Brandl's absence.

Stanton (19-4) battles Madison (1-17) at home in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Thursday.

The Mustangs swept the Dragons 2-0 on the opening night of the season.

Madison lost 2-0 to O'Neill and Battle Creek at the O'Neill Triangular on Tuesday.

This should be an easy win for Stanton.

The Mustangs will play the winner of Wisner-Pilger and Scribner-Snyder, and I look for Stanton to reach the semifinals and have a potential rematch with Howells-Dodge.

I'm sure the Mustangs would like another crack at the Jaguars, but first things first, Stanton has to take care of business against the Dragons.

The Mustangs can't take Madison lightly, and I'm sure they know that. I look for Stanton to play good Volleyball on Thursday.

The Mustangs have done a good job of adjusting to playing without Jessie Brandl, but when she comes back, Stanton will be that much better.

If anything, the Mustangs have developed some other players who can step up and fill in during a player's absence.

Stanton doesn't have an easy road to the tournament championship, but I think the Mustangs are capable of getting there.

The goal for Stanton has to be to win the tournament, and I think that is also something the Mustangs are capable of doing.

I feel any of the top 5 seeds are capable of beating one another so this should be an interesting tournament.

I think Stanton will do well and hold their own despite the tough competition. We will see how well the Mustangs do.
