GACC 1-2 in last three matches
Guardian Angels lost to Lutheran High Northeast 2-1 and beat Wisner-Pilger 2-0 at the Wisner-Pilger Triangular Thursday night before falling 3-2 at Pierce Tuesday night.
LHNE took set one 25-20, and set three 25-22, while dropping set two 25-21.
Maddie Knobbe led GACC with 18 kills and 13 digs while Kali Stratman and Ally Plagge totaled 16 digs apiece. Lisa Gatzemeyer registered 13 digs while Stratman dished out 27 set assists.
In the final match of the night, the Bluejays won set one 25-18, and set two 25-20.
Knobbe led GACC with 8 kills. Stratman notched 8 digs and 11 set assists.
Head Coach Kate Hagemann."We started off really slow, and then kind of got it together there in the 2nd, and got it together there in half of the 3rd, and just let it slip away. Then you turn around and you beat a good Wisner team pretty convincingly in two sets, so it's just the game of Volleyball. You're going to have a lot of highs and a lot of lows. And if you can just be a few less errors than the other team you'll have a good chance of winning. And against Lutheran High we just had too many unforced errors to beat a decent team like them."
GACC took set one from Pierce 25-20, and won set two 25-22 before dropping the next three sets 25-21, 25-17, and 17-15.
Knobbe led the way with 19 kills and 12 digs while Plagge recorded 14 digs. Stratman notched 11 digs and 36 set assists with Gatzemeyer totaling 8 digs.
I thought GACC was going to beat Pierce, Credit Pierce for battling back and putting the match away, but this was one GACC had, and feels they should of won I'm sure.
GACC (10-8) is at Crofton (15-4) Thursday night.
The Warriors won 3-1 at Creighton Tuesday night.
Crofton is a very good team, and this is going to be a really difficult matchup.
I think GACC can definitely win as the Warriors also lost in five sets to Pierce earlier this season, but GACC has to close out opponents when they have the chance.
The Bluejays would really like to get going with very winnable matches at David City Aquinas and Norfolk Catholic next week.
The Mid State Conference Tournament is looming, and GACC wants to be on top of their game for those matches.
I fully expect the Bluejays to play well Thursday night, and challenge and push Crofton.
I could definitely see the match going five sets.
It would be a big deal for GACC to beat the Warriors. It would be a real feel good win for the Bluejays, in my opinion.
GACC needs other players to step up and help Knobbe offensively though.
The Bluejays have multiple players who are solid on defense, but Knobbe has proven to be the only real consistent threat on offense for GACC so far this season.
You can bet the Warriors will focus on her and try and make other players beat them.
The Bluejays need to start playing well with the postseason right around the corner.
This is time of year when you want to be playing your best Volleyball, and GACC certainly needs to start doing that soon.
I think the best is yet to come for the Bluejays, I really do, but at some point GACC has to get things going.
It will be interesting to see if the Bluejays can get the job done Thursday night. We will see if GACC can get it.
