Howells-Dodge drops season opener to Oakland-Craig, wins home Round Robin

The Howells-Dodge Volleyball Team fell 3-1 at Oakland-Craig in Thursday night's season opener before winning their home Round Robin on Saturday, sweeping Winside, Randolph, and Hartington-Newcastle 2-0.

The Jaguars took set one from the Knights 25-23, but Oakland-Craig won sets two and three 25-20 and closed things out with a 25-23 set four victory.

Grace Baumert had 15 kills and 9 digs while Riley Pokorny, Jayda Bazata, and Cassie Pieper had 10, 9, and 7 digs, respectively. Ellie Baumert tallied 26 assists.

Howells-Dodge beat the Cardinals 25-18 in set one and 25-13 in set two.

Grace Baumert once again recorded 15 kills while Ellie Baumert totaled 22 assists.

The Jaguars took care of Winside in straight sets as well, winning 25-13 and 25-17.

Grace Baumert had 12 kills while Bazata notched 8 digs. Ellie Baumert added 7 digs and 19 assists.

Howells-Dodge beat Hartington-Newcastle 25-16 in the first set and 25-13 in the second set.

Grace Baumert led the way with 13 kills while Ellie Baumert mastered 19 assists.

The Baumert transfers have really made their mark and impact on this program that is for sure.

The Jaguars (3-1) take on Clarkson/Leigh (0-0) on the road Tuesday night.

This is the season opener for the Patriots.

Clarkson/Leigh figures to be pretty solid once again so the Baumert transfers have to really do work once again in this match.

Oakland-Craig is a very good team, perhaps stronger than the Patriots, and every set was close against the Knights.

That and you add in the fact that it was the first match of the season.

I think Howells-Dodge really played well on Saturday, and that gives them a lot of momentum heading into this match.

With that said, the match is on the road at a rival's house.

It's one thing to win at home, it's another to win on the road.

The crowd may not be as big though so a hostile environment may not come into play in this one.

The Baumert transfers have to go off once again for the Jaguars to be successful though.

They have clearly stood out as the top two players on the team so far this season.

We'll see what Howells-Dodge can do and if they can win again and make it four in a row Tuesday night.
