Belfrage assumes Head Coaching Role at Tekamah-Herman

Team: Tekamah-Herman

Mascot: Tigers

Colors: Purple and Vegas Gold

Class: C-2

Conference: East Husker

Head Coach: Manni Belfrage (1st season)

2019 record: 3-28

Returning Starters: N/A

Overview:

The Tekamah-Herman Volleyball Program is now under the leadership of Manni Belfrage as she takes over for Becky Rennerfeldt, who left the school to become the Head Coach at Oakland-Craig.

Coach Belfrage tells KTIC Sports that she's excited for the opportunity. "I'm really excited. I have a good group of Juniors and a Senior. The Junior girls I coached in Junior High ball so I've kind of been with them for a while. And I'm really excited for this year. Things are looking pretty good."

Reese Hansen is the lone senior on the team for the Tigers this year. Other key returners include Elena Jetensky (5'7, JR OH), Brynn Schmidt (JR OH), Aubrynn Sheets (5'3, JR L), and Kennedy Pagels (5'9, SO MH).

It sounds like the Tigers have a very talented Junior Class.

I think Tekamah-Herman ought to feel pretty optimistic about themselves this year.

Of course that's if everything stays on track and doesn't get shutdown or altered by the pandemic.

Belfrage says she was thrown for a loop when COVID first hit. "When I went into it in the Spring I was kind of making the spring offseason plan, the summer offseason plan, and then when we all got shutdown in March just like everybody we're sitting here thinking what if, when is this ever going to end type of thing. And so all of the plans my assistant coach and I Cayle Klein made we kind of just scrapped."

Thankfully we're tentatively scheduled to play a season this year, thanks in large part to the NSAA, who decided to move forward with Fall High School Sports in Nebraska.

Let's hope things don't get to the point where games have to be cancelled or the season gets called off.

Let's hope all the games get played, and that nothing gets interrupted or disrupted by the pandemic.

Season Outlook:

Tekamah-Herman looks to have a good season and be rejuvenated so to speak with Coach Belfrage taking over the program.

The lighter part of the Tigers' schedule comes early, which is probably better than it being tough early so it will be interesting to see what Tekamah-Herman can do.

Belfrage says the conference will have a different look to it this year. "Well there's been a lot of coaching turnover in our conference so it will be interesting to see kind of how the teams look different under their new head coaches. So I'm pleased with how our girls are doing and I think we should matchup pretty well."

I think Tekamah-Herman ought to feel pretty optimistic and confident about their chances this year.

A lot of teams are going through change, including the Tigers, but Coach Belfrage has been an assistant for the program so that should help out quite a bit you would think.

These girls just have to enjoy every moment of every match this season and make the most of things.

You never know when the season might come to a screeching halt so Tekamah-Herman has to play every match as if it is their last.

The Tigers should give it all they got this year and leave it all out on the court.

Tekamah-Herman has to be ferocious and aggressive yet smart with their attack on both offense and defense.

The Tigers open up the season at BRLD on August 27th. The Wolverines are an up and coming team, a lot like Tekamah-Herman so it should be a good match.
