The Stanton Mustangs finished runner-up at the Wakefield Tournament over the weekend, defeating Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Lutheran High Northeast 2-0 before downing Pierce and the host Trojans 2-0 on Saturday. Stanton lost 2-1 to Hartington Cedar Catholic, also on Saturday.

Stanton has continued to play sound volleyball. I'm sure the Mustangs would have loved to have won the Wakefield Tournament, but second place is nothing to hang your head about.

Stanton (8-2) takes on Boone Central/Newman Grove (3-2) and Norfolk Catholic (0-6) in the Norfolk Catholic Triangular on Thursday.

The Cardinals went 2-1 at their own invite on Saturday, knocking off Central City and O'Neill, but losing to Crofton.

The Knights lost 3-0 at home to Wahoo on Thursday.

Both teams figure to give the Mustangs their best shot, but Stanton should be able to win both matches.

I think Boone Central/Newman Grove will give the Mustangs the tougher match, but Stanton can't underestimate Norfolk Catholic or the Cardinals for that matter.

The Mustangs have their own tournament on Saturday so two wins heading into it would be nice I'm sure.

Stanton has to approach these matches the same way they would any other.

The Mustangs don't need to do anything special or out of the ordinary, Stanton just needs to play their game.

The Mustangs simply have to let their talent and abilities take care of the winning. Stanton still needs to be focused and has to play hard, but as long as the Mustangs do those things, they should be in good shape.

Stanton can't overlook either team on Thursday, meaning the Mustangs can't be looking ahead to Saturday.
