Guardian Angels Central Catholic sweeps Boone Central/Newman Grove
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays capped an unbeaten week last week with a 3-0 win at Boone Central/Newman Grove.
GACC won set one 25-16, set two 25-21, and set three 25-19.
Maddie Knobbe put down a match-high 12 kills and 7 digs while Kali Stratman recorded 10 digs and 20 set assists. Lisa Gatzmeyer totaled 13 digs while Allie Knobbe and Ally Plagge notched 8 and 7, respectively.
Head Coach Kate Hagemann says her team has learned a lot in a short amount of time. "We lost a few games early. And with kind of a young team coming back, I think they learned a lot in the first couple of matches. Playing in that tournament and getting a lot of games under their belt quickly. So I think that was good for us."
The Bluejays (5-2) travel to Wayne (4-5) on Tuesday in a match that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
Hagemann expects the Blue Devils to be tough. "Yep, they'll be probably the best team we've played so far this year. So we're expecting a very good challenge. They made it into the Gold Division at the opening tournament and played some really good competition on Saturday. And all their losses are to really good teams."
Wayne's losses have come to Wisner-Pilger, North Bend Central, Lutheran High Northeast, Columbus Lakeview, and Ord.
The Blue Devils are a very talented team, and beating them on their home floor will be no small task.
I think GACC can come out of this with a win though. The match could very well go 5 sets, but I think the Bluejays have what it takes to win.
Knobbe needs to have a good match for the Bluejays as does Gatzmeyer, Allie Knobbe, Stratman, and Plagge.
GACC has to be tough and resilient, and must be ready to deal with adversity should it strike at any point in the match.
The Bluejays have to execute well in all areas of the game, which includes serving, passing, hitting, setting, and serve receiving.
GACC has to eliminate unforced errors and outhustle Wayne.
The Bluejays must also have good judgement of whether the ball is going to be in or out. That's where communication comes into play. GACC has to be very talkative on the court.
Tuesday's match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
