North Bend Central looking to return to dominant and winning ways

Team: North Bend Central

Mascot: Tigers

Colors: Orange and Black

Class: C-1

Head Coach: Amy Sterup (14th season)

2018 record: 14-15

Returning Starters: 8

Overview:

North Bend Central went through a bit of a rebuilding year last year one could say, but returns eight starters from last year's 14-15 team.

Back for 14th year Head Coach Amy Sterup are seniors Lauren Emanuel (6'1, MH), Megan Ortmeier (5'8, OH), Jessa Hellbusch (5'4, S), Jenna Byrd (6'2 RS), and Maddie Renner (5'3, DS).

Juniors Cierra Kluthe (5'10, OH) and Ally Pojar (5'10, MH) as well as Sophomore Sydney Emanuel (5'6, DS) return for NBC as well.

I think having the height and experience the Tigers have in these girls will help North Bend Central out this year tremendously.

I also think having the success the Tigers had in basketball last year will help this year's Volleyball team out a lot as well.

North Bend Central has done really well in Volleyball in past years, and cranked things up in basketball last season.

Now the Tigers have to turn things up a few notches in Volleyball, and be a power in both Volleyball and Basketball.

North Bend Central has to be a favorite to win the Conference in both sports this year I feel.

It could be a situation where the Tigers make state in both sports.

There's a long ways to go a lot of work to be done before that happens, but anything can certainly happen.

North Bend Central basically has everyone back from last year, and the Tigers are an experienced and veteran laden team.

I think that will help the Tigers going up against some of the younger teams in the Conference this season.

North Bend Central has been there and done that before, and this isn't the Tigers' first rodeo by any stretch of the imagination.

Last year was tough, but I think with a year of maturity and growth North Bend Central is well on their way to having a good and successful and winning season.

I don't see why the Tigers can't win anywhere from 20-25 matches this season.

Season Outlook:

North Bend Central opens up the season on September 3rd against Shelby-Rising City and Madison at the Shelby-Rising City Triangular.

I think the extra practice time and not starting the season until September 3rd really helps the Tigers.

North Bend Central needs to come out strong out of the gates and play well early though because the Tigers hit a tough stretch of games in mid-September.

NBC has Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, the North Bend Invite, Stanton, Wisner-Pilger, Oakland-Craig, and West Point-Beemer all within a two-week stretch.

That will be a big stretch of matches for the Tigers, and we'll see how they fare in those two weeks.

Sterup says the team has high hopes for the season. "We are looking forward to a season where we can grow as a team. We have all of our returning starters back. Looking forward to starting out stronger than last year and staying strong.  We have experience on the court this year which will make us a stronger more confident team going into this year."

I completely agree with Coach Sterup on that one.

Having everyone back should allow North Bend Central to get back to playing the type of Volleyball they're accustomed to.

Last year was one of those years where you lost a bunch of great players from arguably your best team in school history, and it was a rebuilding sort of year you could say.

That's not the case this year though, and I fully expect the Tigers to go out there and play well and find ways to win night in and night out.

I think North Bend Central will be one of those teams opponents fear and don't want to play.

The Tigers have to get back to playing tenacious, smash like Volleyball that gives opponents shivers and the jimmies.

North Bend Central has to put fear in their opponents just by walking into the gym and warming up.

The Tigers have to hit, pass, and serve the ball with authority and make good decisions on the fly.

Having good judgement on balls being in or out and communicating that is key and vital there's no doubt about it.

North Bend Central has to be unified, and play together as one.

If they do that then the Tigers can accomplish great things and go special places this season.
