Wisner-Pilger wins Sub-District C2-5

The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team won Sub-District C2-5 in Pender, downing BRLD 3-0 Monday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before winning 3-1 over GACC in Tuesday night's Sub-District Final.

The Gators won set one 25-14, set two 25-4, and set three 25-19 over BRLD.

Jordan Wegner led Wisner-Pilger with 15 kills while Rachel Otten chipped in 7. Reagan Scholting had 12 digs while Emily Hatterman notched 28 set assists.

Head Coach Jean Groth says her squad dominated the first two sets. "Yes I thought the team played exceptionally well. They did a good job earning points. Our defense was great also."

Wisner-Pilger took set one from the Bluejays 25-19 and won set two 25-16 before losing set three 25-18 and taking set four 25-20.

Wegner posted 24 kills and 11 digs while Aspin Waterman totaled 11 kills. Otten added 7 kills while Scholting and Adi Meyer had 19 and 9 digs, respectively. Hatterman compiled 48 set assists.

Groth's team lost the third set in part due to troubles serving. "I guess I really feel like we've focused on trying to get stacks of three or more points. And when they side you out at two then they can score and then it's just like a back and forth battle. And so you got to try and get that score separation. We're trying to get the three of the four in a row."

Groth on the girls advancing to Sub-State on Saturday. "I'm really excited for the team. To be able to make that Sweet 16, that Sub-State. They've been, as all teams have, improving all season, and to be able to get to that pinnacle is going to be pretty exciting for them."

Wisner-Pilger (23-10) takes on Thayer Central (25-6) in the C2-4 District Final at Shelby/Rising City Saturday afternoon.

The Titans lost 3-0 to Superior in the C2-3 Sub-District Final at Adams Central Tuesday night.

Thayer Central is a pretty good team who has lost to some great teams.

I definitely think the Gators can win, but it's going to be tough.

Wegner is going to need to play the way she did against the Bluejays, and Waterman and Otten are going to need to step up as well.

I was waiting for that to happen all year....multiple girls stepping up offensively that is.

Wisner-Pilger is playing great Volleyball right now, whereas the Titans have lost some matches at the end of the season.

Is it good enough to get the Gators to Lincoln? I think it definitely can be.

I think Wisner-Pilger has a legit shot to win this one and make state.

This is the Gators' chance too.

Opportunities like these don't come very often, and Wisner-Pilger has to make the most of it.

The Gators have to go out there and play the way they did against Central Catholic.

Same killer's instinct and mentality.

It would be a big deal for Wisner-Pilger to make state, and I really hope it happens for them.

Emily Welch is a player to watch out for for Thayer Central as she had 10 kills in the loss to the Wildcats.

The Gators have to go in there confident and must expect to win.

I really think Wisner-Pilger has what it takes to go in there and win given the way they've played over about the last three weeks to a month or so.

The Gators have to seize the moment and take everything they ever wanted.

A trip to state is on the line, and Wisner-Pilger has to get fired up!!!!!!

Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Shelby.
