GACC beats O'Neill and Homer

 

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Volleyball Team won 3-1 at home over O'Neill Thursday night before sweeping Homer 3-0 at home Tuesday night.

The Bluejays took set one from the Eagles 25-20. O'Neill won set two 25-21 before GACC won set three 25-19 and set four 25-16.

Sophia Hass had 21 kills and 16 digs while Taylor Timmerman and Andie Guenther added 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Isabel Hass totaled 26 digs while Megan Plagge registered 17 digs and 37 assists. Erica Engelmeyer tallied 13 digs while Kelsy Steffen notched 9.

The Bluejays downed the Knights 25-10 in set one, 25-13 in set two, and 25-21 in set three.

Sophia Hass totaled 14 kills and 9 digs while Greta Wooldrik and Timmerman registered 9 and 7 kills, respectively. Isabel Hass chipped in 14 digs while Steffen posted 11. Engelmeyer totaled 7 while Plagge recorded 32 assists.

Two really nice wins for GACC.

The Bluejays (7-5) host Oakland-Craig (9-3) Thursday night.

The Knights lost 3-0 at home to Wahoo on Thursday of last week.

Oakland-Craig is a very good team that competed well against the Warriors I thought.

GACC is a really good team in their own right though, and something has to give in this match.

The Bluejays have been playing their best Volleyball in the last two weeks so this should be a highly entertaining and interesting match.

I feel this match will be a great one, and could perhaps even go five sets.

GACC has to try and contain and stop and slow down Bailey Helzer.

The Animal of the Week really makes the Knights go, and she is definitely the leader for Oakland-Craig.

The Bluejays get the Knights at their house though, and so this should be a great match for sure.

I feel things could go either way given the way GACC is playing right now, but Oakland-Craig is going to be very tough there's no doubt about that.

These are the kind of matches the Bluejays want to play though.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder goes 1-2 at own Tournament

 

The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Volleyball Team beat Schuyler 2-0 at their own Tournament on Saturday, but fell 2-0 to Yutan and 2-1 to Homer.

The Chieftains won set one 25-18 and set two 25-19.

Dream Daugherty had 9 digs while Leah Keithley totaled 8. Miranda Batenhorst added 9.

The Knights won set one 26-24, and won set three 25-14 after losing set two 25-12.

Daugherty notched 11 kills and 21 digs while Karlie Hansen posted 11 digs. Keithley and Batenhorst tallied 11 assists each.

Daugherty had 11 kills and 7 digs against the Warriors while Keithley compiled 13 assists.

Good for LVSS to pick up one win on Saturday at least.

The Raiders (5-11) take on West Point-Beemer (10-3) and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (5-7) at the H/LHF Triangular Tuesday night.

The Cadets, who swept Madison 3-0 at home Thursday night, have won five straight.

The Bulldogs went 2-1 at the CWC Tournament on Saturday, beating Neligh-Oakdale and Twin Loup 2-1, but losing 2-0 to the host Renegades.

This will be a pretty tough Triangular for LVSS I think.

Both teams are very talented, especially the Cadets.

The Raiders have to go into this ready to compete and challenge both teams though.

Daugherty has to have two big matches for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, and the Raiders need to play great throughout to have a chance.

I feel like LVSS has the potential to do well and compete in this tournament, but the competition is stout.

I will say I think the Raiders have a better chance against the Bulldogs than they do the Cadets.

All Logan View/Scribner-Snyder can do is go out there and give things their best shot so we'll see what happens.

Winnebago sweeps Walthill Triangular; loses at home to Ponca

 

The Winnebago Volleyball Team won 2-1 over Omaha Christian Academy and Walthill at the Walthill Triangular last Thursday night before losing 3-0 at home to Ponca Tuesday night.

Bago took set one 25-18 and set three 25-19 while losing set two against the Eagles.

The Indians won set one 25-20 over the Blujays before winning the 3rd and decisive set 26-24 after losing set two 25-22.

Winnebago fell 25-16, 25-11, and 25-22 to Ponca.

Good wins and a good, strong effort against Ponca on Tuesday.

Bago (2-5) was scheduled to host the Winnebago Invite on Saturday with Santee, Omaha Nation, and Walthill, but the tournament has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Tekamah-Herman goes 1-2 at Boone Central Invite; falls to West Point-Beemer

 

The Tekamah-Herman Volleyball Team lost 2-0 to Ord and Boone Central at the Boone Central Invite on Saturday before defeating Central City 2-0. The Tigers then fell 3-0 at home to West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Chanticleers won set one 25-15 and set two 26-24.

The Cardinals took set one 25-12 and set two 29-27.

The Tigers took set one from the Bison 25-15, and claimed set two 25-23.

The Cadets won set one 25-15, set two 25-21, and set three 25-22.

Good win for Tekamah-Herman over Central City.

The Tigers (3-9) host their own Invite on Saturday.

Tekamah-Herman's first opponent is BRLD (9-6) at 9:00 a.m.

The Wolverines lost 3-0 at home to Fremont Bergan Tuesday night.

The Tigers get BRLD at home early in the morning, and that could mean upset time perhaps.

The Wolverines did sweep Tekamah-Herman 3-0 at home in the season opener on August 27th though so upsetting BRLD doesn't figure to be easy.

The Tigers also have matches with Omaha Roncalli and Fort Calhoun.

Figures to be another day of opportunity for Tekamah-Herman.

That is of course if this tournament gets played and doesn't get cancelled or postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Let's hope that this tournament gets played and that everyone remains healthy.

BRLD goes 2-2 on Day Two of Wakefield Invite; swept at home by Fremont Bergan

 

The BRLD Volleyball Team swept Ponca 2-0, lost 2-1 to Hartington Cedar Catholic, beat Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 2-1, and lost 2-0 to Lutheran High Northeast at the Wakefield Invite on Saturday before being swept 3-0 at home by Fremont Bergan Tuesday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

Against the Bears, the Wolverines took set one 25-16, lost set two 28-26, and won set three 25-21.

Megan Beutler had 9 kills, 13 blocks, and 7 digs while Alyssa Buchholz totaled 7 kills and 9 digs. Caragan Tietz added 7 kills and 12 digs while Aubrey Berg notched 12 digs. Brooklyn Nolting tallied 8 digs and 11 assists while Alexzi Nottleman registered 7 digs.

The Trojans won set one 25-19 and set three 26-24 while dropping set two 25-20.

Beutler had 15 kills while Tietz recorded 8 kills and 14 blocks. Kinlee Bacon added  14 digs while Berg and Bella Bonneau posted 9 and 8, respectively. Nolting added 7 assists.

The Knights got off to fast starts in the first two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-17.

BRLD got out to a 10-4 lead in the third set, before Bergan tied it at 14-14 and pulled away to win set three 25-18, claiming the match.

BRLD is now 9-6 on the season and will participate in the Tekamah-Herman Invite on Saturday.

The Wolverines' first match of the day is against the host Tigers (3-9) at 9:00 a.m.

Tekamah-Herman fell 3-0 at home to West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

BRLD beat the Tigers 3-0 at home in the season opener.

The Wolverines also have matches with Fort Calhoun and Omaha Roncalli.

Both those teams are at about .500, and I think BRLD definitely beats the Pioneers, and perhaps even knocks off the Crimson Pride.

Roncalli has played a tough schedule though so they will be difficult to contend with for sure.

It's the last match of the day though, and if the Wolverines take care of business in their first two matches they may end up winning the entire thing.

That's of course if things don't get postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

We've seen some postponements and cancellations in the area this week already, so hopefully this doesn't get added to the list.

Howells-Dodge beats Shelby-Rising City and Elgin Public/Pope John at Home Tournament; sweeps Wakefield

The Howells-Dodge Volleyball Team beat Shelby-Rising City and Elgin Public/Pope John 2-0 at the Howells-Dodge Tournament on Saturday before sweeping Wakefield 3-0 at home Thursday night.

The Jaguars defeated the Huskies 25-10 in both sets one and two.

Grace Baumert had 15 kills while Ellie Baumert registered 24 assists.

Howells-Dodge beat the Wolfpack 25-12 in set one and 25-13 in set two.

Grace Baumert notched 15 kills while Ellie Baumert posted 20.

The Jaguars downed  the Trojans 25-17 in set one, 25-9 in set two, and 25-19 in set three.

Grace Baumert registered 19 kills while Ellie Baumert totaled 8 digs and 36 assists.

The Baumert and Baumert connection led Howells-Dodge to victory over the weekend and on Tuesday.

Howells-Dodge's home match in Dodge against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder scheduled for Thursday has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Oakland-Craig finishes Runner-Up at Boone Central Invite; wins five-set thriller at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family

 

The Oakland-Craig Volleyball Team went 2-1 at Saturday's Boone Central Invite, beating the host Cardinals 2-1 in their first match of the day before defeating Ord 2-0 in the Semifinals, and losing 2-0 to Columbus Lakeview in the Championship. The Knights then won 3-2 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.

Oakland-Craig won set one over the Cardinals 25-12, and took set three 25-8 after losing set two 29-27.

Bailey Helzer finished with a match-high 17 kills while Ashten Rennerfeldt and Shea Johnson each tallied 10 digs. Maycie Johnson added 8 digs while Josie Richards registered 25 assists.

The Knights knocked off the Chanticleers 26-24 in set one and 25-15 in set two.

Helzer had 8 kills while Rennerfeldt posted 10 digs. Richards added 7 digs and 18 assists.

The Viqueens knocked off the Knights 25-16 in set one and 25-20 in set two.

Helzer recorded 13 kills while Johnson notched 7 digs. Richards compiled 17 assists.

The Bulldogs won set one 25-21 before the Knights took set two 25-17. H/LHF won set three 30-28 before Oakland-Craig took set four 25-22 and set five 15-10.

Great and thrilling win for the Knights Tuesday night!

Oakland-Craig (9-2) hosts undefeated and top-ranked Wahoo (8-0) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Warriors won 3-0 at home over Beatrice Tuesday night.

This is a rare and big-time opponent coming into Oakland.

Wahoo is the type of team you want to face in preparing yourselves for an end of season run.

The Warriors are the kind of team that helps prepare you for the postseason, including state, and bolsters and strengthens your team.

I look for the Knights to compete really well in this match and play great. 

I also look for Helzer to have a great match individually.

If it's anything like the other night then it should be a thriller.

I think Oakland-Craig on Tuesday was perhaps looking ahead to the match with Wahoo on Thursday.

Not to take anything away from the Bulldogs, but the Knights could have easily won that match in 3 or 4 sets.

What's important though is that Oakland-Craig escaped Humphrey with a win.

And now the stage is set for the Knights Thursday night.

Oakland-Craig has to simply go out there and get it. 

First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the Bull.
