West Point-Beemer goes 3-2 at Northeast Nebraska Classic; beats Wisner-Pilger

 

The West Point-Beemer Volleyball Team beat Tekamah-Herman 2-0 and Wayne 2-1 at home in the Northeast Nebraska Classic Thursday night before winning 2-0 over North Bend Central, losing 2-0 to Lutheran High Northeast, and losing 2-1 to Oakland-Craig at Wisner-Pilger on Saturday. The Cadets then beat Wisner-Pilger 3-1 at home Tuesday night in action we had for you on 107.9 the Bull.

West Point-Beemer took sets one and two 25-17 from Tekamah-Herman.

Sidney Swanson had 9 kills while Brooklyn Weddle totaled 9 digs. Reece Snodgrass added 24 assists.

The Cadets lost set one to the Blue Devils 25-15 before winning set two 25-16 and set three 25-18.

Swanson led the way with 12 kills and 20 digs while Rachel Groth totaled 10 kills. Weddle added 15 digs while Snodgrass registered 15 digs and 25 assists. Katie Rainforth put forth 12 digs while Jadyn Meiergerd tallied 11.

West Point-Beemer defeated North Bend Central 25-12 in set one and 25-18 in set two.

Swanson notched 11 kills while Meiergerd recorded 7. Weddle added 10 digs while Snodgrass posted 24 assists.

The Cadets fell 25-23 in set one to the Eagles, and dropped set two 25-19.

West Point-Beemer defeated the Knights 25-17 in set one before losing set two 25-22 and set three 25-23.

Swanson paced the Cadets with 15 kills and 9 digs while Meiergerd had 7 kills and 9 digs. Weddle compiled 11 digs while Snodgrass registered 10 digs and 28 assists. Rainforth chipped in 9 digs.

Against Wisner-Pilger, the Cadets won the first two sets 25-23, 25-16, before the Gators took the third set 25-23.

West Point-Beemer then won the fourth set 25-17.

Swanson had 22 kills and 15 digs while Meiergerd posted 11 kills and 12 digs. Groth totaled 8 kills while Rainforth tallied 7 kills and 7 digs. Weddle recorded 30 digs while Snodgrass recorded 16 digs and 44 assists.

What a turnaround for the Cadets so far this season. West Point-Beemer is playing some great Volleyball right now.

The Cadets are now 6-3 on the season and will participate in the Schuyler Triangular against the host Warriors (1-3) and Twin River (0-5) on Thursday. 

The Warriors won 3-1 at home over Cornerstone Christian Thursday night while the Titans lost 2-0 to Cedar Bluffs and Tekamah-Herman at the Tekamah-Herman Triangular Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer should sweep both matches, but the Cadets can't take anyone lightly or for granted.

I feel like the Cadets have a great chance to dominate their next 4 or 5 matches, and win their next 6 or 7 or more.

This is a West Point-Beemer team that is playing at a very high level now and is a force to be reckoned with in the area and in the conference.

The Cadets have to keep it up and must keep asserting themselves as a great team and power.

West Point-Beemer has to use their next four matches (Tekamah-Herman and Madison next week) as matches to continue to grow and improve and get better and strengthen themselves for some of the traditional powers down the line.

The Cadets have to come out and take care of business Thursday night and in both matches next week.

I fully expect West Point-Beemer to do just that and roll into a tougher week with a 10-3 record.

GACC goes 3-2 in Northeast Nebraska Classic; sweeps Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family

 

After getting off to a slow start, the GACC Volleyball Team appears to be finding its way.

The Bluejays beat Fremont Bergan 2-1 before losing 2-0 to North Bend Central at the Northeast Nebraska Classic in North Bend Thursday night, and then beating Wakefield and BRLD 2-0, but losing 2-0 to Wayne at Wisner-Pilger on Saturday. The Bluejays then swept Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 3-0 at home Tuesday night.

The Knights took set one from the Bluejays 25-21 before GACC won set two 25-16 and set three 25-21.

Sophia Hass had 12 kills and 27 digs while Greta Wooldrik and Andie Guenther totaled 9 and 8 kills, respectively. Isabel Hass added 20 digs while Megan Plagge tallied 17 digs and 30 assists. Erica Engelmeyer added 11 digs.

The Tigers downed the Bluejays 25-10 in set one and 25-22 in set two.

Sophia Hass had 7 kills and 13 digs while Plagge notched 16 assists.

GACC defeated the Trojans 25-15 in set one and 25-14 in set two.

Sophia Hass tallied 11 kills while Isabel Hass added 12 digs. Engelmeyer registered 11 digs while Plagge compiled 17 assists.

The Bluejays defeated the Wolverines 25-10 in set one and 25-23 in set two.

Sophia Hass recorded 9 kills and 7 digs while Isabel Hass tallied 13 digs. Plagge added 14 assists.

GACC lost set one 25-12 and set two 25-14 to the Blue Devils.

Plagge posted 12 assists.

The Bluejays beat the Bulldogs 25-13 in set one, 25-17 in set two, and 25-21 in set three.

Sophia Hass notched 19 kills and 14 digs while Taylor Timmerman added 10 kills. Isabel Hass contributed 31 digs while Kelsy Steffen totaled 11. Plagge registered 9 digs and 36 assists while Engelmeyer had 9 digs.

It certainly appears as if GACC found themselves some in this tournament and against H/LHF.

I think a slow start against the Tigers is what cost the Bluejays in that match.

GACC (4-4) takes on Boone Central (0-2) on the road Thursday night.

The Cardinals fell 3-0 at O'Neill on Thursday of last week.

I fully anticipate the Bluejays sweeping this match.

GACC flexed their muscles in the Northeast Nebraska Classic and took it to the Bulldogs Tuesday night.

I look for the Bluejays to play well Thursday night and only strengthen themselves for matches down the road.

This is a match where GACC has to play well and continue to get better.

Building yourself and ironing out the weak spots and areas of struggle....that's exactly what the Bluejays must do in this one, adding to what they have done already.

It should be a great night of Volleyball for GACC, and the Bluejays should be able to leave town with a win.

It should also prepare GACC for the tough matches they have next week.

Winnebago loses opener to Tri County Northeast

 

The Winnebago Volleyball Team lost 3-1 at Tri County Northeast in Tuesday night's season opener.

The Wolfpack took set one 25-11 and set two 25-18 before the Indians won set three 26-24 and lost set four by the same score.

I thought Winnebago really picked things up at the end of the match and got better as the match went on.

The Indians (0-1) take part in the Ft. Calhoun Invitational on Saturday.

Other teams in this tournament include Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Fort Calhoun, and David City.

Some quality teams and competition for sure, but a tournament that Winnebago ought to feel they can do well and be successful in.

The Indians should feel pretty optimistic heading into this tournament, in my opinion.

The Raiders are 1-4, the Scouts 1-3, and the Pioneers 1-1.

I feel the opportunity to win and do well is there for Winnebago.

The Indians have to play the way they did late against the Wolfpack and start off all matches stronger on Saturday than they did on Tuesday.

Winnebago is young and so a slow start in the first match is understandable, but the Indians have to come ready to play on Saturday.

Winnebago has to go out there and play their hearts out and perform well and at a high level on Saturday.

The Indians have to play with a lot of heart, desire, passion, spirit, fire, tenacity, toughness, and grit.

Winnebago has to be physically and mentally tough and strong, and must play their game and not beat themselves.

Tri County Northeast starts year 2-1

 

The Tri County Northeast Volleyball Team defeated Winnebago 3-1 at home Tuesday night to open up the season before losing 2-1 to Ponca and downing Homer 2-0 at the Ponca Triangular Thursday night.

The Wolfpack took set one from Winnebago 25-11 before winning set two 25-18. Winnebago won set three 26-24 before Tri County Northeast won set four by the same score.

Tri County Northeast beat Ponca 25-23 in the first set before the Indians won the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-14.

The Wolfpack took set one from the Knights 25-16, and won set two 25-13.

Solid start to the season for the Wolfpack.

Tri County Northeast (2-1) battles Pender (1-2) and Howells-Dodge (3-2) on the road Tuesday night.

The Jaguars lost 3-1 at Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night while the Pendragons lost 2-0 at home to Oakland-Craig and Wakefield at the Northeast Nebraska Classic Thursday night.

Pender will be playing some more matches this weekend so it will be interesting to see how fresh they are come Tuesday.

The Jaguars will have been well rested and have the Baumert transfers in Grace and Ellie Baumert, who are really good.

So Tri County Northeast has their work cut out for them, and these matches will really test the Wolfpack without a doubt.

Tri County Northeast nearly beat Ponca though, and Ponca is a very good program, much like Howells-Dodge and Pender, so it will be really interesting to see what happens.

Clarkson/Leigh off to 3-0 start

 

The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball Team is off to a red hot start as they are 3-0 to begin the young year.

The Patriots defeated Howells-Dodge 3-1 at home in Tuesday night's season opener before winning 2-0 over Madison and Stanton at the Stanton Triangular Thursday night.

Clarkson/Leigh beat the Jaguars 25-22 in sets one and three and lost set two 25-22 before winning set four 25-13.

Chloe Hanel totaled 16 kills while Kayden Schumacher and Kennedy Settje notched 9 kills and 15 digs and 9 kills and 14 digs, respectively. Cassidy Hoffman added 8 kills while Makenna Held had 8 digs and 42 assists.

The Patriots downed the Mustangs 25-13 in set one and 25-22 in set two.

Hanel led the way with 8 kills while Alissa Kasik totaled 10 digs. Held compiled 16 assists.

Clarkson/Leigh beat the Dragons 25-13 in set one, and won set two 25-4.

Hoffman tallied 11 kills while Schumacher had 9. Held tallied 19 assists.

The Patriots are flat out rolling right now, but next week gets tougher.

Clarkson/Leigh (3-0) travels to Bancroft to take on BRLD (3-1) Tuesday night.

The Wolverines beat Wisner-Pilger and lost to Lutheran High Northeast 2-0 at the Northeast Nebraska Classic in Wisner Thursday night.

BRLD has a few matches this weekend too so it will be interesting to see if fatigue plays a factor in Tuesday's match at all.

The Patriots should be the fresher and more rested team so it will be interesting to see if that plays to Clarkson/Leigh's advantage.

It's not easy to win on the road, let alone in the East Husker Conference, but win and remain undefeated is exactly what the Patriots will try and do Tuesday night.

Hanel is a really special player, and she's only a freshman.

Clarkson/Leigh is having a nice season so far, and the Patriots have to keep it up.

The Patriots have to keep the ball rolling Tuesday night, and continue to play and at a high level.

Clarkson/Leigh has to keep doing what they've been doing so far this year, and continue to amaze night in and night out.

This has a chance to be a really special season for the Patriots, and Clarkson/Leigh has to keep things going and rolling.

Stanton begins season 1-3

 

The Stanton Volleyball Team is off to a 1-3 start as the Mustangs fell 2-0 to West Point-Beemer and Battle Creek last Thursday at the Battle Creek Triangular to open up the season before losing 2-0 to Clarkson/Leigh, but beating Madison 2-0 at the Stanton Triangular Thursday night.

The Mustangs fell 25-20 in set one and 25-13 in set two to the Cadets.

Sylvia Cunningham and Olivia Cunningham each had 7 digs while Bridgett Jensen totaled 7 assists.

The Bravettes took set one 31-29 and set two 25-15.

Sylvia Cunningham had 8 kills while Jensen and Haylea Nelson added 10 and 9 assists, respectively.

The Mustangs fell 25-13 in set one to the Patriots, and lost set two 25-22.

Jensen led the way with 9 digs and 9 assists while Nelson tallied 7 assists.

Stanton beat the Dragons 25-9 in set one, and 25-16 in set two.

Sylvia Cunningham led the way with 7 kills while Jensen and Nelson compiled 8 and 7 assists, respectively.

A slow start to the season for the Mustangs, but the win over Madison helps.

Stanton (1-3) takes on Columbus Lakeview (2-0) at the Columbus Scotus Tournament on Saturday.

The Viqueens defeated Seward 3-0 at home Thursday night.

The Mustangs definitely have their work cut out for them in this one, but Stanton has to go into this tournament ready to compete.

Stanton has to come ready to play and must get off to a fast start against Lakeview.

The Mustangs can't afford to start slow or fall behind early, or the match may not go in their favor.

Stanton has to make the most of the day, and go out there and have fun and play inspired.

The Mustangs have started the season slow, but no better tournament to find your rhythm and get on track than in this tournament.

I look for Stanton to go in there and compete and give it their all.

It hopefully will be a good and successful day of Volleyball for the Mustangs.

It won't be easy though as there is some very good and tough competition in this tournament.

Stanton has been there and done that before though so the Mustangs know their way around tough tournaments.

We'll see if Stanton's experience of the past benefits them in Saturday's Tournament.

First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Columbus.

Wisner-Pilger starts Kay Raabe era with win over Schuyler

 

The Kay Raabe era began on a high note Thursday night as Wisner-Pilger swept Schuyler 3-0 on the road Thursday night in what was the first match played without Legendary Head Coach Jean Groth since the fall of 1978.

The Gators won set one 25-12, set two 25-8, and set three 25-4.

Joslyn Jacobs had 10 kills while Adi Meyer totaled 31 assists.

Good strong, dominating performance in the season opener for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators (1-0) take on Lutheran High Northeast (2-0) and BRLD (2-0) at home in the Northeast Nebraska Classic Thursday night.

The Eagles won 3-0 at home over Elgin Public/Pope John Thursday night before downing Hartington Cedar Catholic 3-0 on the road Tuesday night.

The Wolverines swept Tekamah-Herman 3-0 at home Thursday night before winning 3-1 at home over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tuesday night.

Wisner-Pilger ought to have a good chance to do well on Thursday, especially since they are at home.

LHNE and BRLD are two great teams though and will be tough and difficult to beat.

I feel like all three of these matches can go either way really.

It wouldn't shock me if all three teams went 1-1.

This figures to be a highly entertaining and compelling tournament and Triangular Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger is allowing 75% fan capacity for games so quite a few people should be able to get in.

I think the Gators have just as good a chance as either of these two other teams to advance to the winner's bracket on Saturday.

Every point, every play, every set is so critical.

One mistake, one error could be the difference.

So I feel like the team that makes the least amount of mistakes and errors and doesn't beat themselves will be the one to come out on top at this location.
